After Church, about to have lunch with Mother and Dad
"Call me Mother." I think my Mother got that from her Mother. We could call her Mother, Grandmother, not Granny, not Grandma but Grandmother. Before you go and judge, think about it.
When we were children, when other people had those huge video cameras to capture those special moments when their children took their first steps, when they started to walk, etc., my Mother had her voice tape recorder. Though you couldn't see us, you could hear us. You could hear us as we read from the book we had from school or the library, you could hear us scream as we ran and shrieked our way to our room (okay that was me), you could hear me asking "moo moo for meelk", you could hear my cousins as they sang a gospel song for us to hear when we got home from school (my mom watched them every now and then), etc. I wish I knew where those tapes were. Precious memories!
With my dad, my Mother decided to be a stay at home Wife and Mother. This was the woman who was a Physical Therapy Assistant, who worked at a nursing home taking care of the elderly. She told her boss that she was getting married on such and such a date, her boss said, "If you leave don't come back." And as much as she didn't want to leave or her patients didn't want her to leave, she had no choice. God was taking her on a different path and she trusted Him in that.
Growing up, my Mother was always there for us. There were times in my teenage brain, I didn't understand that. If you know my Mother, she is soft spoken with a bit a spice. She is sweet! Story is, you wouldn't have know that as she was growing up. She had a lot of spice but as a teenager, at the age of 15, Christ came into her life and changed her to where she became sweet but He still left some spice in her for goodness sake not for wrong.
Later on as an adult, I came to realize how wise my Mother really is. As a young rebel, I didn't understand how she could put up with so much. I thought her quiet spirit was a sign of retreat but little did I know at those times she was really crying out to God to be her strength. She could have been the nagging, raging wife, lashing out at my dad when what he said didn't seem to be right, but she didn't and in the end my dad's heart would change and God won out!
Mother has put up with a lot that this daughter has done in her past but she doesn't hold it over my head, she forgave me and I know she loves me.
I have heard her say that she is happy being a Mother and that she feels blessed with daughters. Though I know she would have felt just as blessed with sons.
She is so happy to now have a son in her son-in-law, so grateful that he is the man that God clearly blessed me with.
I can't wait to see her with grandchildren of her own. She is so good with children and they have this connection, I've seen it. And yes, they will call her Grandmother.
I love you, Mother!
"Her children will rise and call her blessed...." and thank You Lord for blessing me with my Mother!
